The Ross of Mull and Iona was identified as a suitable area for the Highlands and Islands Enterprise initiative – Growth at the Edge or GatE. The aim of the GatE project is to support communities in working together to achieve sustainable growth.  As part of this support, funding is provided from HIE and LEADER for the anchor organisation, Mull & Iona Community Trust, to employ a Local Development Officer to work with the community in creating a Community Plan.

The aim of the first 6 –8 months of Growth at the Edge is to create a Community Plan, and to do this various forms of consultation have been carried out across the area. Most recently a household survey was posted to 336 addresses.  We had a great response to the survey with a return rate of 48%.  This is amongst the highest of return rates across the Growth at the Edge communities so a big thank you to those who took time to complete the survey.  There are some brilliant opinions, thoughts and suggestions which have come from the results and it is clear that we have so much we can build on as a community.  The responses combined with a statistical analysis of the area will be used to produce the Community plan.  This will be available for public consultation once complete and we hope it will create lots of opportunities for the Ross of Mull and Iona.  Watch this space....
